Engagement Fuels Career Motivation

Video: Engagement Fuels Career Motivation – 2 min

Despite many organizations’ best efforts, it’s impossible to motivate someone externally who isn’t engaged internally. But individuals who take responsibility for their own careers know it’s never “management’s” job to engagement me – it’s my job to engage myself.

The key is to focus on the things we really want and need most instead of being distracted by the things we don’t like.

There will always be challenges and de-motivators at work, but each person has an internal compass that tells us what we need to be engaged in any job we have, such as the type of role we need to play or the problems we need to solve or the contributions we need to make.

Key Takeaway: When you can identify what engages you in your career, you’re much more likely to find it, starting with the role you’re in right now.
