Communication Essentials Video 3: Communicate to Connect

Video 3: Communicate to Connect – 2 min

Which is more important for effective communication: what you say, or how you say it? Both are essential!

Our audience has their own agenda, perspective and priorities, which are often slightly different than our own.

  • People who connect well… don’t neglect their own agenda, but they also understand and accommodate the agenda of their audience to achieve a positive outcome for everyone.
  • People who fail to connect… usually aren’t malicious, they just get tunnel vision. They’re so focused on the outcome they want that they don’t factor in the priorities of the audience.
The better your communication connects, the more likely you’ll be to accomplish a positive outcome for everyone.

Key Takeaway: Every communication is an opportunity to build a stronger connection.

Day 3 Question:

Think of a person you will be communicating with in the next couple of days.

What is this person’s highest priority, as it relates to the topic of the interaction?
